Have you ever wondered how a simple word can be so powerful to ignite extreme violence and hatred? Is the power in the word or the hearer of the word?
Is it possible for a person to hear an inflammatory comment and not be negatively influenced? Sometimes i wonder who is in control anymore…. the sender or receiver.
It seems we are bombarded with information (other peoples opinions) and do have a choice in the matter, but possibly lack selfcontrol to think it through before reacting.
What kind of a world would it be if we actually spoke and listened with respect for the truth? Maybe Col. Nathan R. Jessep (Jack Nicholson from a few good men) said it best…..”YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!” We may not want to hear or say the truth, and it gets complicated from there.
Who knows? Speaking for myself, I prefer people to trash the flattery and manipulative B.S. and say what is real…. I have tremendous respect for people that can carry an intelligent conversation of differing opinions…. without malice.
Passion is one thing, but forcing an opinion into the minds of others is (in my opinion) weak.
Are people (in power) guilty of using words to control our beliefs, or are we responsible for what we hear? There is a great quote from the bible that reads “consider carefully what you hear.” (Mark 4:24). I might have used it out of context, but it seems the receiver has a part in the communication process.
Anyway, what are your thoughts on words and the power within them? Are you in control of what you hear/read, or do others run you around like a dog chasing a laser pointer?
